Groceries for Families: Week 1 - Day 2

March 24, 2020

A few new recipients have been added, as more churches are coming on board to increase capacity.

Yesterday was Day 2 and very successful.  Groceries were delivered by Crossroad Bible with a truck backing up right to the Jubilee doors.  Jubilee site coaches have been engaged to help manage the in-take, organization and distribution to families. Daniel is handling the family recruitment, confirmation and communication, which is a massive undertaking.  Thank you.

Of the 20 confirmed families Tuesday, 15 showed up on time and we delivered 2 orders to families unable to leave their home.  One family is coming first thing this morning.  Another large family of 10, which will receive 2 orders, hopefully will be coming today.  There were lots of smiles and thank you’s being shared.  Please receive them back to you all.

Here are some comments back to Daniel to share with you:

“Believe me, the food would be very helpful to me and my family. Given how things are in these moments, the rent and the bills worry us so most, so we do not want to spend money on food. Thank you for your generosity and God bless you.”

“ Hello.  My name is Michelle and I would like to be put on the list for groceries :) would you so happen to be adding toilet paper , paper towels,  and lysol like bleach wipes? Its understandable if not but I figured I would ask  . I went to Walmart this Saturday and the employee told me soon like toilet paper and paper towels eggs , milk , oils will be limited to 1 per family as well which I didnt go out and hoard like everyone else did I should have being that I have 7 kids now at home instead of at school . I have one kid goes to Sammamish High he is in 9th grade , 1 girl in Odle Middle in 6th grade , 5 in lake hills elementary school two girls in 3rd grade , 1 girl in second grade , and 2 boys grade k . Would the whole family have to be at Jubilee to pick up ? I ask this because Saturday was the 1st time I left home only for exception of grab and go meals at school which is drive through so I'm out of my house for about 11 minutes Monday through Friday so I'm trying to limit my kids outings as well as mines and some of my kids are scared to leave home in fear of catching Corvid 19 .  You can put me down for 7 kids 1 adults. Kids dad is my only financial means . I would greatly appreciate anything that you are willing to offer . I am glad to see places reaching out since now that all 7 kids are at home I didnt plan on this financially I typically prepare for summers and school breaks this I was not prepared for I feel bad that I didnt prep but I had no clue they would shut things down like they have .  Let me know if I make it on the list.”

Monday and Tuesday were the first delivery days for people in the community who are providing bulk food items (flour, pinto beans, sugar, rice, butter & cooking oil), as well as personal hygiene items (diapers, baby wipes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene, shampoo, soap, shaving, deodorant, toilet paper.  The bulk food was portioned out (see attached picture) into zip-lock bags by staff and will be distributed to families on Thu, Fri and Sat each week.  The list of personal hygiene items are listed on a whiteboard for families to see the inventory and request what they need.  The inventory (see attached pictures) is secured in my own office and available for staff to grab as needed for families.  It was great to add this to the outreach.

With a waiting list of an additional 60 families already in place, we are actively working to double the capacity to 40 families each day, beginning Monday.  Thank you for your partnership and commitment to this essential program for these families.

Serving together,
Ken Carpenter
